BRIEF
HISTORY OF LAKAS High School
On March 1, 1982, a literacy program
for the Aytas was organized by the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary (FMM). After
the eruption of Mount Pinatubo, the Lubos na Alyansa ng mga Katutubong Ayta ng Sambales (LAKAS) was
displaced and found a resettlement area at sitio Bihawo,Villar,Botolan,Zambales.
The community was led by Ayta
leaders and elders and one of them is Carlito Domulot or
more
notably known as Ka Carling, who was an eager advocate of education. These
leaders were enthusiastic to establish their own school because of a deeper
reason - discrimination. Their children experienced insulting and bigoted
remarks and treatment when they were sent to study
in
the town’s school.
In June of 2013, as per DepEd order
No, 71s. 2003, LAKAS High School (area of 3,750 square meters) finally had been
approved as a newly established school in the Division of Zambales with the
Government Permit No. 043 s. 2013.
LAKAS High School started with only
28 Ayta students who lived in vicinity. They were taught by facilitators of
Ayta successions. In 2014, DepEd sent its first teacher and through the
collaborative efforts of the institution, community leaders, parents and
stakeholders, LAKAS produced multi-awarded students and teachers, winning
competitions nationally and internationally.
To date, this institution prides
itself in being inclusive where Aytas and non Aytas live and study together.
Its mantra is SISIBOL, IIGKAS, DADALUYONG.
